Medical rehabilitation is the complex application of the most professional and latest medical rehabilitation measures (physiotherapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, massage, social and psychological assistance, medical treatment, diet, education of patients and their relatives in health issues, etc.).

Patients of both outpatient and inpatient treatment facilities can be sent to Gradiali sanatorium for medical rehabilitation (inpatient or outpatient) – the decision to prescribe medical rehabilitation is made by the doctor treating the patient and the doctors of physical medicine and rehabilitation (hereinafter referred to as FMR).

When a patient is sent for inpatient rehabilitation, ITC funds pay for rehabilitation procedures and medications for the treatment of the main illness/disease, accommodation and meals.

When a patient is sent for outpatient rehabilitation, only rehabilitation procedures are paid for by the ITC, accommodation and meals are paid for by the patient’s personal funds.

Medical rehabilitation services are provided in accordance with the 2022 order of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Lithuania. November 23 order no. V-1738 “On the approval of the description of the procedure for prescribing and providing medical rehabilitation and anti-recidivism treatment services” and 2022 of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Lithuania. December 7 order no. V-1828 “On the approval of descriptions of general and special requirements for the provision of medical rehabilitation and anti-recidivism treatment services”. These and other orders of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications can be found on the website www.sam.lt.

Patients coming for rehabilitation treatment must have:

  • an identity document
  • an extract from the treating doctor’s medical documents (form 027/a or epicrisis), issued in the “esveikata” information system

Paid medical services are provided at the institution for patients who undergo rehabilitation at the expense of the ITC, when the patient requests additional medical procedures that are not related to the treatment of the main disease and are not compensated from PSDF budget funds or requests improved living conditions (e.g. wants to live alone in a room).
